What to Expect
Meeting your changing needs
Your postpartum doula will assist you in the ways that best fit your needs. Tasks performed by your doula will change as your needs will change throughout your postpartum period. However, there are some tasks that your postpartum doula will not take on as it is outside of their scope of practice.
Tasks your doula will perform
- Meal preparation
- Clean bathrooms
- Vacuum
- Sweep
- Mop
- Start laundry/fold clean laundry
- Do dishes/clean kitchen counters
- Take out trash & recycling
- Attend to baby/babies
- 10-15 minute dog walk
- Clean litterbox
- Pickup dog poop in the yard
- Feed pets (during the first 2 weeks)
- Provide baby-feeding tips
- Provide baby-bathing techniques
- Play with/attend to older children
Tasks your doula will not perform
- Feed caged pets*
- Tend to caged pets*
- Clean pet tanks, cages, or kennels
- Run errands
- Provide transportation of any kind
- Nanny services such as going to/from school, extracurricular activities, etc.
- Sleep train baby
*These pets include, but are not limited to, reptiles, fish, and rodents.
